How safe is at-home fractional laser skin rejuvenation?

Fractional laser technology was once exclusive to professional clinics. Now it's possible to access the same results from home. But is it safe? What can you expect?

How does fractional laser skin rejuvenation work?

Fractional laser works by delivering targeted laser energy into the deeper layers of the skin, creating microthermal treatment zones (MTZs). Your body then repairs these MTZs, stimulating the production of new collagen and elastin and improving the visible signs of ageing including fine lines, wrinkles, pigmentation and uneven skin texture.

Unlike traditional lasers that treat the entire surface of the skin, fractional lasers treat only a fraction of the skin at a time, leaving surrounding tissue intact to support faster recovery.

The Tria FRX uses this same fractional laser technology, bringing clinical-grade skin rejuvenation home, starting from just 2 minutes a day.

Is fractional laser skin rejuvenation safe at home?

Yes. When used correctly, fractional laser is a safe and clinically proven method of skin rejuvenation.

The Tria FRX is the only FDA-cleared fractional laser for at-home skin rejuvenation. What makes it uniquely safe for home use is that the safety considerations of a professional treatment are built directly into the device.

Skin contact sensors, motion sensors and skin temperature sensors work together to ensure safe and consistent treatment, with no professional oversight required, so you don’t need a professional on-hand to administer treatments.

Is fractional laser skin rejuvenation safe for all skin tones?

Fractional lasers target the deeper layers of the skin to stimulate collagen production, rather than targeting pigment at the surface. Because of this, the Tria FRX is suitable for all skin tones, making it accessible to a much wider range of people than many other laser devices.

However, always refer to the user manual for full guidance before starting treatment.

Recovery time and side effects of laser skin rejuvenation.

There are two types of fractional laser: ablative and non-ablative:

  • Ablative lasers vaporize the outer layer of skin, requiring significant recovery time.
  • Non-ablative lasers work beneath the surface, leaving skin intact with minimal downtime.

The Tria FRX is non-ablative. Some mild redness is normal and typically short-lived. We recommend treating in the evening so it doesn't affect your day.

We also recommend applying our Phytograph Hydrating Calm Soothing Gel after each treatment.

At home vs professional fractional laser skin rejuvenation.

Professional treatments like ‘Clear + Brilliant’ treat around 5 and 20% of skin per session, requiring professional oversight and longer recovery time.

The Tria FRX treats around 2% per session, removing the need for a clinician while delivering the same end results over a course of treatments.

Over a decade of research and development has gone into the built-in safety features that remove the need for professional oversight.

Skin contact sensors, motion sensors, skin temperature sensors and automatic shut off timers work together to ensure safe, consistent treatment every time.
